Coral hunts the marilenes every night - dangerous sea monsters. Her family is obliged to catch and breed them so that the landowners can hold a deadly chariot tournament - a race for glory. However, working for the elite does... not give Coral's family any privileges: her father and mother are constantly arguing, there isn't enough money for the treatment of her younger sister, and her brother, poisoned during the hunt, cannot get the antidote. They are knee-deep in debt, and even the 'Ark of Freedom' gang refuses to lend them money. Desperate, Coral enters the race for glory, hoping to win honor, fame, and money. Or to die. The girl will have to not only compete against those who have trained their whole lives but also understand who is more terrifying - the monsters, the landowners, or the rebels of the 'Ark of Freedom'.
